Enhancing Your Board Opportunities

The Institute of Corporate Directors (ICD) believes that effective directors contribute to better boards and stronger governance practices. Being appointed to a board takes time, dedication, effort and experience.

While the ICD is not a board placement agency, we offer many tools, resources and opportunities for in-person networking to assist our members in their quest to obtain director positions:

  • The ICD Directors Register - A personal service that assists organizations in finding the best directors to help them create better boards. At the heart of the ICD Directors Register is a national member database of highly-skilled professionals who are ready to serve on boards and committed to practicing good governance.

  • Formal Director Education/Professional Development - The ICD offers a full suite of national director education programs including the Directors Education Program and NFP Program (both jointly developed with Rotman School of Management, University of Toronto) and one-day short courses developed by directors for directors. These offerings provide participants with the skills and knowledge they need to be more effective directors. In addition, the ICD hosts topical seminars and conferences across the country through a network of local Chapters.

  • Certification - The ICD.D certification, granted by the Institute of Corporate Directors, provides a higher level of knowledge, commitment and credibility to the director profession.

  • Networking - The ICD hosts and sponsors a wide range of events that bring Canada's foremost directors and business leaders together to share ideas and make important connections.

  • Resources - Corporate governance is an ever-expanding area and navigating through the vast amount of information that exists on the subject can be both time-consuming and challenging. The ICD offers a number of resources that help members to understand the issues of the day and keep current on emerging trends and best practices.
