Governance Lessons from Donald J Lowry, ICD.D, F.ICD
If you live in Edmonton, Don Lowy is likely a familiar name and one that is synonymous with good governance. The ICD Edmonton Chapter congratulates Don Lowry on being chosen as a recipient of the 2020 ICD Fellowship Awards.
As part of the ICD Fellowship Tribute Series, CEO Rahul Bhardwaj interviewed Don about the meaning and value of good governance. Filled with gems of advice, this interview is a must listen to aspiring and senior directors alike. Don talks about his journey as a director, what good governance means to him, attributes of a good director, the future of governance in Canada, key board challenges, and how to maximize board effectiveness. He concludes by unpacking his top three pieces of advice: be curious, be courageous and communicate.
Don richly deserves this recognition on a national level reflecting his many contributions to our local, provincial, national, and cross border communities as an executive, as a member of important boards, as a leader of initiatives at the request of the community, and as a person. Don is an example to us all of what it means to have purpose in life and purpose in governance. He believes in and hold values that are important to all of us in every board room, at every level, in every type of organization. And we are proud to call Don one of our own.
