Jointly developed by the Institute of Corporate Directors and the University of Toronto’s Rotman School of Management, Board Dynamics for Executives offers a unique perspective on optimizing management-board dynamics.
 
As the voice and educators of Canadian directors and their boards, the ICD and Rotman know how to navigate the boardroom. Benefit from the collective knowledge and insights of our expert faculty, as well as the shared experiences of your colleagues through interactive breakout sessions.

Objectives

Designed for senior management who are increasingly engaged with and accountable to their board, this comprehensive program will:
    • Deepen your understanding of management-board dynamics:
      Appreciate the intricacies of how boards function and clearly define the roles, accountabilities and responsibilities on both sides of the table.
    • Enhance your engagement with your board members:
      Develop strategies to confidently and effectively communicate your ideas, while bridging the inevitable information gaps to gain alignment.
    • Maximize your impact in the boardroom:
      Gain insights, tools and concrete skills that you can immediately implement to positively impact strategic board decisions.

Format

The current program format consists of four synchronous, half-day sessions delivered online.

Note: Sessions are not delivered on consecutive days.

Eligibility

    • Experienced senior executives with good business acumen developed through 5+ years in a senior executive management role (C-suite, managing director).
    • Except in exceptional situations, all admitted participants would have appropriate experience as an executive reporting and/or presenting to a board of directors within the last 12 months. Consideration will also be given to executives who will be presenting to a board in the near future.
    Potential applicants who are unsure if their experience is suitable for admission to the Board Dynamics for Executives Program, are encouraged to email the Program Officer, Education at education@icd.ca to request a consultation regarding their eligibility.
