Hugh Arnold

Hugh divides his professional time between his appointment at the Rotman School and his consulting practice through Hugh Arnold Associates Limited, specializing in leadership, strategy, governance, and human resources. Dr. Arnold is an Adjunct Professor of Organizational Behaviour and Human Resource Management at the Rotman School of Management at the University of Toronto. He was previously Magna International Professor of Business Strategy and Dean of the Rotman School. He has published extensively in leading scholarly journals and has written several books in the McGraw-Hill Series in Management. He has served on the editorial boards of The Academy of Management Journal, Organizational Dynamics and the Asia-Pacific Journal of Economics and Business.
His consulting practice focuses on strategy, corporate governance, leadership development and human resource management. At Rotman, Hugh teaches in the MBA program, as well as teaching in many of the School's non-degree executive programs. He serves as Academic Director of a number of Rotman's executive programs, including one-week executive programs on Organizational Leadership and the Rotman Strategic Human Resource Management Program. In his work with executives and board members on governance issues, he has served as Academic Director of ICD-Rotman Governance Essentials Program as well as the Human Resource & Compensation Committee Effectiveness program. Hugh teaches in the ICD-Rotman Directors Education Program (on CEO evaluation and succession) and also currently serves as Academic Director for the ICD-Rotman Board Dynamics Program.
Hugh has a BA in psychology from the University of Alberta, an MA in psychology and philosophy from Oxford, and an MA and Ph.D. from Yale University in organizational behaviour.
