Environmental, social, and governance (ESG) practices have been on the Board’s agenda for some time and continue to evolve from the early days of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR). ESG helps to highlight the ethics of the business to the external world. McKinsey and Company[LT1]  notes that the key to making good ESG decisions is first understanding where your organization is on the ESG maturity curve. Most fall somewhere between minimum practices—basic risk mitigation and reporting—and advanced next-level measures that fully embed ESG into strategy and operations. The next step is to map your organization’s business model against each ESG dimension.  To do this requires a clearly articulated corporate purpose.

Our seminar will explore the current state of ESG in Canada in both the corporate and non-profit domains and drivers influencing the adoption of ESG practices. We will also provide examples of frameworks to adopt if your organization is starting its ESG journey and discuss the respective ESG roles of the Board and management. Our expert panel – moderated by Sharon Varette, M.P.A., C.Dir will also address ESG in the context of business ethics and responsible investing.
