The call for trustworthy AI can be heard everywhere. Following the AI winter of the 1990s and early 2000s, the dramatic rise of artificial intelligence over the past 15 years has been attributed to a growth in the availability of computing power, the availability of big data, and the advancement of machine learning techniques. It is widely held that AI will help solve some of the world’s biggest challenges: inequality, climate change and food insecurity. The flip side of the promise of AI is its risk, especially regarding fairness, discrimination, and bias. This explains the widespread call for trustworthy AI and underscores the imperative of robust AI Governance.
 
Join us as we welcome AI governance expert Mardi Witzel for an overview of AI governance, a review of the changing regulatory environment around AI, and a discussion of the implications for boards. Along with enterprise challenges like data governance and cybersecurity, AI represents a topic at the frontier of board governance that should be placed squarely on every board’s agenda.

If you register for an event and do not attend, you are liable for the full event fee. If you are unable to attend, you may transfer your ticket to someone else. However, please note that should your replacement have a different membership status and there is a price differential, you will be either credited or charged the balance.

Mardi Witzel is a Board Director with 20 years of experience in not-for-profit board governance, stakeholder engagement and strategic planning, Mardi is focused on ESG and AI Governance and the unique challenges facing high-growth firms.

Today she works as an associate with NuEnergy.ai, providing AI governance expertise to public and private sector clients and as a Governance Coach with The Governance Boutique, providing services to individuals and small groups to elevate their board value.

Mardi serves as a Public Representative on the Council of the Chartered Professional Accountants Ontario (CPA Ontario) and the board of Polyalgorithmic Machine Learning Inc (PolyML), an AI start-up in Waterloo, Canada. She is the former Chair of the Muskoka Watershed Advisory Group and KidsAbility Foundation.

Karinna Neumann is a Non-Executive Director and former Global Head of Marketing with over ten years of board-level experience with expertise in the manufacturing, chemical, software, and technology industries. At the board level, Karinna grows businesses by leveraging decades of international leadership experience across global technology, publicly listed large cap to privately held entrepreneurial organizations. In an executive capacity, Karinna’s experience includes Nymity (now TrustArc), where she took a visionary, leading role in transforming the company into a recognized global data privacy compliance software leader. In progressive functional and general management roles, Karinna spent 17 years at BASF, the world’s largest global chemical company. Karinna has an MBA and is a Chartered Director and Boardroom Certified Qualified Technology Expert.
