This event is available in-person. The ICD Edmonton Chapter invites you to a reconnection in-person event featuring live-streamed guest speaker Jim Balsillie, Canadian businessman and philanthropist, and former Chair and co-CEO of the Canadian technology company Research In Motion (Blackberry). With innovation and technology as major themes transforming the Alberta and world economies, Jim, who is also Chair of Council of Canadian Innovators, will appear virtually to speak on innovation and intellectual property, and the transformative impact these intangibles are having on corporations in Alberta. Intellectual property and data represent 92 per cent of the S&P. This shift in market cap requires updated toolkits at all levels of executive function. Board members have a fiduciary responsibility to ensure they are literate in understanding how the 21st century economy has shifted the Alberta landscape. Alberta's innovation ecosystem is primed to lead globally across many sectors in the era of intangibles. This thought-provoking discussion will challenge perspectives on the digital economy, and how these skills need to be updated to help companies survive and thrive in the new landscape. Jim will join us virtually with an interactive and lengthy Q&A session, a rare opportunity not to be missed. As one of the ICD Edmonton Chapter's signature events, this will be a tremendous opportunity to reconnect with fellow members in person.
