Making Sense of Global Complexity

The most recent report from ICD and TMX entitled Charting the Future of Corporate Governance, draws attention to how boards need to incorporate stakeholder engagement and ESG issues into strategy. But meeting these needs is challenging in a world experiencing increasing stress and turmoil. Use of the term “polycrisis” has exploded recently among global policy elites as a handy label for the entangled mess of systemic risks affecting our world—including war, pandemic, rampant inflation, energy shortages, climate extremes, surging migrations, and democratic decline. The Cascade Institute is analyzing the underlying mechanisms driving this polycrisis to better understand the novel danger humanity faces. Homer-Dixon will review some of the Institute’s key findings and their relevance to financial and economic decision making and assist boards in understanding these current complexities.
