A.I. and the Role of the Board
Companies and organizations around the world are grappling with the challenges and opportunities that AI and other advanced technologies can bring. A key challenge is understanding the risk and opportunity balance as well as the board’s fiduciary duties in an evolving digital age. Join Elizabeth Denham and Tony Payne for a conversation, moderated by Gayle Gorrill, ICD.D, about the legal, policy and technical matters of innovative technologies for board consideration.
The discussion will focus on why Board AI governance is a business imperative and not just IT oversight, what are board vs management responsibilities, and how are organizations aligning AI strategies and governance with their culture, business models and values. The speakers will address key issues including:
- How do boards identify competitive advantages vs risk tolerance? How do you ensure that the culture of the organisation supports responsible AI?
- What are the current trends and regulations nationally and internationally that will determine how organisations are developing or procuring AI solutions?
- What are the key legal, ethical and reputational risks of AI? What lessons can we learn from enforcement and regulatory actions in Canada and internationally?
- How do you establish a sound AI governance program from scratch?
- What are the key questions the board should ask of management to assess the maturity and risk (positive and negative) to ensure AI is developed/adopted responsibly within the organisation.
