In the boardroom, definitive information may not always be available, and a distinct course of action may not always be clear. Learn from your director peers as you jointly tackle a complex issue for a fictitious board. Discuss options and learn to work through real-world boardroom challenges towards possible successful outcomes.

Drawing on a case study provided to participants before the session, this webinar will explore urgent questions about strategic direction and the level of Board engagement at a long-standing performing arts centre. Participants will engage in problem-solving discussions and deliberations the case study highlights. Facilitated by experienced directors, this interactive discussion will explore:

• appropriate levels of board engagement in order to carry out necessary oversight

• considering whether, in the context of future needs, the right skills and experiences exist on the board

• the advantages and disadvantages of major shifts in an arts organization's programming direction

During the session, the Moderator will highlight key themes from the case study and relate them to real-world governance experiences. Participants will then take part in facilitated breakout discussions from a Board member perspective, with key insights shared back to the group. The session will conclude with a synthesis of discussion outcomes and broader governance considerations arising from the case study.
