Speaking Up and Speaking Out Tackling Tough Topics (Session 2 of 3)
Session 2: Governance in Public Boards: Speaking Out When the World Is Watching
In a world of intense transparency and polarization, taking a public stand or remaining silent can be perilous. This session examines when and how companies should express their views, and what to do when board-level decisions or executive comments become public and provoke negative reactions from shareholders, the media, or social media. Drawing on real situations they have navigated, panelists will discuss how boards can prepare before making public statements, how they should think about responding to online criticism, and what role directors play when CEOs or executives speak during periods of geopolitical tension. The conversation will focus on practical lessons learned from high-visibility moments where speaking out carried real consequences.
