Net Zero – How Corporate Canada Can Lead in Redressing Climate Change

Flames and floods, devastating winds, drought and deaths – climate change impacts are affecting Canadians and communities across the globe. Transitioning to a low-carbon environment is an imperative that requires a concerted and coordinated world-wide effort, but creates substantial disruption and comes at a cost. Those costs are much higher for some industries, and for the communities which depend on them, than for others. Tradeoffs must be made, and it is no surprise there is disagreement on the actions to be taken, and how rapidly changes should be made.

Canadian companies are well-positioned to play a key role in global initiatives to tackle climate change. Canada has expertise in power generation and storage and sources of power generation, including oil & gas, hydro, nuclear, solar and wind, and is at the forefront of technology to monitor, reduce and sequester emissions. How can Canadian boards help Canada be a leader on climate change? For this session, we bring together a roundtable of experts who share a commonality of purpose, but hail from an array of backgrounds, including public interest, industry and investor perspectives. We look forward to a lively and thought-provoking discussion as they share their views on:
  • the unique ways Canada can assist in a just transition,
  • the board’s role in addressing climate change,
  • the role of the government and regulators, and
  • the benefits and risks of sharing knowledge and technology.
