Directors’ Dilemma: Davidson’s Sports: A culture of bullying and intimidation – the board’s role

This Director Dilemma will focus on the important issue of bullying and the role boards can play in ensuring that their organizations are building and maintaining a healthy culture. Bullying may be a pervasive problem within an organization, but it can also fly under the radar. According to another recent survey in CareerBuilder, fewer than half of the employees who are bullied report the problem and, of those who do, 54% say that no action was taken in response to their complaint. If it is not properly dealt with, bullying can be very costly to organizations. Employee turnover, absenteeism, extended leaves, disability claims and productivity problems can result if bullying is allowed to remain unchecked in the workplace.
