Reconciliation Meets Reality: Housing, Economic Inclusion, and the Board’s Role

The housing crisis in BC and across Canada is testing the limits of affordability, inclusion, and workforce stability. For Indigenous communities, it is also about sovereignty, land use, and economic participation. This panel explores how boards—across sectors—can help drive solutions that advance both housing outcomes and Indigenous economic reconciliation. Participants will hear from leaders involved in Indigenous-led housing and development corporations who are redefining how projects are financed, governed, and sustained. The discussion will help directors see how governance decisions—around risk, partnership, and impact—can either enable or impede reconciliation.

Key Objectives

• Examine the intersection between housing and Indigenous economic reconciliation.

• Identify how boards can support Indigenous-led housing and development initiatives.

• Discuss how housing pressures affect talent and community resilience.

• Share practical examples of board leadership in addressing systemic barriers.
