Course Description
The Institute of Corporate Directors and The Rotman School of
Management, University of Toronto; and presenting sponsors RBC
Foundation and TELUS have jointly developed the Governance
Essentials Program for Directors of Not-For-Profit Organizations (NFP
Program).
The NFP Program is an intensive three-day program taught by prominent
faculty from Canada's leading business schools and some of our country's
most accomplished directors. This innovative program will provide
learning on key accountabilities and responsibilities of not-for-profit
leaders by making extensive use of team-based, facilitated learning to
ensure that participants learn not only from faculty but also from their
peers.
The program draws upon prominent practitioners from RBC Foundation
and TELUS Community Boards across Canada and the director community
at-large to act as directors-in-residence. These individuals contribute
to classroom discussions by sharing their experience and insights in the
governance of the $112bn sector.
This program is equally for directors and executive directors of
small and large not-for-profits and is delivered at Canada's leading
business schools in Vancouver, Victoria, Calgary, Edmonton, Toronto,
Ottawa, Montreal, St. John's and Winnipeg.
A limited number of need-based RBC Foundation and TELUS Scholarships,
valued at $1,000.00 each, are available for each NFP offering to support
the participation of not-for-profit board members and executive
directors who otherwise may not be able to participate in the program
due to financial considerations.
For ICD.D directors, this course counts as 14 hours of credit towards
the annual continuing education requirement.

As a businesswoman, board director,
community activist, and advocate, participating in the ICD/Rotman NFP
Program was of immense value andrelevance. The timing was excellent and
the content was fresh and interesting. The price was right and the
instructors were diverse and informative. I found it valuable for my
professional, community and personal life. As a board member and chair
of a number of organizations, I was able to immediately apply the
learning from this program in my work. I would highly recommend the NFP
Program to both executive directors and board members of NFP
organizations.

The ICD/Rotman NFP Program was a perfect
blend of engaged lecture, case studies and group work; quantity and
quality of the materials; and, professors who were knowledgeable and
entertaining! I came away with new processes to consider for my
organization, and a desire to highly recommend the course to others in
the non-profit field. Special thanks to TELUS for the
scholarship!
