What is the ICD’s brand positioning?
The Institute of Corporate Directors is the go-to community for directors that translates shared wisdom into the highest standard of directorship. The ICD not only fosters this national community, we nourish it. This is shared wisdom for lasting impact.

What does this mean?
This means that the ICD leverages the insights and experience of its members to help develop better directors in the belief that better directors make for better boards and higher-performing organizations.

How does the ICD help develop better boards?
The ICD stands for directorship and is the ‘Voice of Directors’ in Canada. We offer quality director education, networking, thought leadership and advocacy, and tools and resources to help directors execute their fiduciary duties in a way that ensure lasting impact on their boards.
Why did the ICD change its brand?
Clearly defining our brand (i.e. who we are, what we stand for and what we offer) was crucial to positioning ourselves for continued success and sustainability into the future. In the past, the ICD was considered a bit of a ‘men’s club’ with perhaps conservative overtones, and dedicated only to directors of large, corporate boards. We took concrete steps in the last few years to evolve beyond that perception, and the launch of our new brand is a culmination of those efforts.

How does the ICD’s new brand support the above?
Our new brand positioning is more inclusive to directors from private, public, not-for-profit and Crown organizations. It is also reflective of the changing landscape inside and outside the boardroom, and the changing role of the director indicated it was time to refresh the ICD corporate identity and positioning.
How do members benefit from the new brand?
One of the key assets of the ICD is the tremendous experience and wisdom that exists within our membership. In addition to launching the new brand, we have embarked on a new three-year Strategic Plan. An underlying principle of all our strategic priorities is for members to benefit from an open forum and community; where they can give and receive experience and knowledge to maximize their value and contribution as a director.
