The hottest topic of the past year has undoubtedly been the explosive growth of Artificial Intelligence (AI). While the public explores AI through ChatGPT and other large language models, organizations in every sector are examining ways to take advantage of the tremendous opportunities AI can support. However, like any new technology, there are risks associated with its implementation and use. Concerns have been raised about potential unethical use of AI. Organizations and their boards, and society overall, are heading into an exciting but unfamiliar time.

Boards must be ready to govern both the opportunities and risks presented by new AI technology. Understanding your role as a board director is vital so you can lean into these complex and, at times, contentious conversations. It is not enough to rely on only the expertise of a few.
