Conversation with BC’s Privacy Commissioner - Data Privacy in the Spotlight

Data and organizations’ abilities to collect and utilize that data are becoming increasingly important to the achievement of strategic goals. While there are many opportunities to utilize data, there is also a growing public awareness of the threat to privacy. Managing privacy risk is becoming more than protecting data from unauthorized disclosure. Changes in legislation, stakeholder (customers, clients, donors, etc.) sensitivities, and even societal views on data ownership are evolving and becoming more complex. Failure to manage these risks can directly affect an organization’s reputation, financial health, and prospects for growth. This one-on-one session with BC’s Privacy Commissioner will touch on some of the varied and complex considerations for effective privacy risk management and will discuss the role and responsibility of the Board in providing oversight. Like many issues that come before the Board, you do not have to be an expert but you do need to know the questions to ask.
