Indigenous Perspectives on Governance & Indigenous Peoples: A conversation with International Leader & CEO Jocelyn Formsma

The value of Indigenous engagement in the boardroom has been widely acknowledged, but are we taking the necessary actions to truly make a difference?

There are many reports that show Indigenous Peoples are heavily underrepresented on Boards of Directors, in the C-suite and in business in general. In 2022, Indigenous Peoples made up 5% of the Canadian population, and yet held only 17 (0.9%) board positions of publicly traded corporations. The statistics for senior managers in 2022 show that only 9 companies had at least one Indigenous senior manager.

The good news is that there are also many reports and incredible Indigenous Leaders that are showing us how to make progress in this area by changing our approaches to identifying and appointing Indigenous Peoples to our companies and organizations. One such International leader is Jocelyn Formsma, Chief Executive Officer of the National Association of Friendship Centres who has a wealth of expert insight and experience in influencing change in boardrooms in Canada and across the Globe.
