The Board Management Nexus – Working Together for Success
Directors know that effectively performing their stewardship and oversight roles are influenced by
their ability to respond to the complex issues reshaping today’s business environment. The board’s
essential fiduciary and legal duties haven’t changed, but expectations and requirements are evolving.
It is to be expected that management will be grappling with the same issues, and it is vital that,
ultimately, there be alignment within and between the board and management.
The panel will discuss strategies for boards to engage internally and with management, proposing
goals, strategies, and approaches toward successful outcomes.

The Power of Transparency and Trust in Multi-Stakeholder and Rights Holder Systems
Building trust with stakeholders and rights holders should be as easy as following through with what you said you would do and being transparent about the outcome. However, organizations must balance increasingly diverse expectations from groups with, at times, conflicting interests and needs. To foster organizational trust, boards need to understand varied stakeholder and rights holder perspectives along the full value chain. How do boards engage with different groups, knowing it is sometimes impossible to please everyone in a complex system?
Drawing on diverse perspectives, this panel will explore strategies to foster transparency and trusting relationships with a varied range of groups.Moderator

Canada's Competitive Landscape: Overcoming Challenges and Embracing Opportunities
Despite a bounty of resources and a highly skilled workforce, Canada has a productivity problem.
Protectionism and bureaucracy influence our sliding economic rankings, but widespread complacency
is an issue, too. Can boards change this trajectory?
This dynamic discussion explores the board’s role in enhancing competitiveness, both within their
businesses and the broader economy. Panelists will highlight the power of an entrepreneurial spirit in
the boardroom – one that encourages management to take calculated risks, improve long-term
investment and leverage technology. By fostering a culture of innovation and alleviating the fear of
failure, boards can drive a robust and productive future economy.
